Thanks for the comments on the socks, everyone! I’m glad I’m not the only one who wasn’t bowled over by Opal. I actually find the bamboo 0s easier to knit with than the metals, which really hurt my hands. But they do get all bent out of shape. Better them than me, of course.
I really should be working on my shaped triangle shawl, but it’s unbearable to hold the black yarn in my hands right now. Somehow makes it hotter. MIL’s just going to have to wait till winter.
California is beautiful. The cool, misty mornings are great, and it’s lovely seeing so many flowers everywhere. But if one more person tells me how lucky I am to have such gorgeous weather, I’m going to fervently pray for some snow.
Mallige, I’m going to try to post photos: if not of des or knitting, at least of food.

Wow, very nice yarns, Desi! And I forgot to congratulate you on your pattern for the socks. Congratulations!
With the laceweight yarn, how much would it weigh? I’m trying to work sums here, because I have some yarn which might be laceweigh, but I don’t know its yardage. I suppose I could always stretch it over a chairback and get an approximation…
This made me laugh: “Better them than me, of course.” I do the same thing with my tiny bamboo needles. I guess it happens to all of us!
Great yarns, too! The Spirit of the Southwest shawl seems perfect for the laceweight, since the yarn came from the southwest (sorta)and is a good color for it. I’m sure you’ll be able to put it to good use, whatever you decide!

Next Project!!
‘DESI’ ‘PROF’ ?
Great stash enhancement!
Thanks, Misfit! I checked the label of the laceweight and it doesn’t give the weight, unfortunately. Only the yardage. But I can go to the postoffice tomorrow and weigh it for you, if you like. To check whether your yarn is laceweight, knit up a small swatch: 8 st or more to the inch should be laceweight. And the chair option, I have found, is the best way to confirm yardage.
Lobstah, now I’m eyeing the S.of the S. shawl more closely, after your nudge. Let’s see, if I can actually get round to winding it before I leave for India.

I made two of these, but monogramming another pair…hmmm. You know, I almost asked for DSIKNTR for my licence plates yesterday.
That brown lace weight is beautiful! I also like that cabled sweater you want to make – seems like cables are really in this year!
Gorgeous yarns! You might look into the Landscape Shawl. It uses garter, stockinette, seed and moss stitches, but the way it’s designed, it’s more interesting to knit than plain old garter all the way across. It shows off handpaints very well and has instructions for every yarn weight lace to worsted. I plan to do at least one more Landscape in the future. (After Faux Russian is done, of course:)
I agree with Stacy. The brown laceweight is a gem. I’m glad your long haul is finished and here is hoping the unpacking goes smoothly. I personnally would like to add that I don’t care how nice your weather is. (grin) I only care if I have nice weather. I don’t you. You left us behind the lovely Deleware Valley humidity.
Hey! Hope you’re having a great time in India.
I finally finished off the scarf I have been knitting for my daughter for years and years on our train ride out to CA. The view was spectacular, as you had said it would be. It was also a very relaxing experience.
I promptly started off on what I call my next 5 year project. A crocheted airy diamond afghan. Since I have not crocheted beyond the chain stitch, this involved doing and undoing several times. My husband says that crocheting is like the Indian Govt. They build, they tear down, they build again, tear down again…
