I didn't read the pattern from start to finish ... so always thinking there must be a reason for casting on that way. Turns out you are right ... the pattern called for crochet cast on, but not provisional. I didn't want to frog ... so I just undid the crochet chain and put the stitches on needles and bind off with the main yarn. Save me some time from frogging and knitting again.
