Welcome, and do pardon the mess!
Okay, this is the new place. I’m still unpacked and have to figure out the fixtures and the neighbourhood, but so far so good! Please do let me know what you think of the decor; any tips with home improvement are most welcome. I’ve tried to keep it like the earlier one, but clearly there’s still work to be done. Since this move has exhausted all my tech skills and more, I’m going back to some basic knitting now.
But I thought that after the awful dancing in the last post, I’d leave you with one song that has been playing in my head all day – it’s a classic from the ’50s movie “Howrah Bridge” (sung by Geeta Dutt), and the dancer is the gorgeous Helen. Nobody can wiggle it like she could, no matter how much the hip actresses of today try to. O.P. Nayyar, the composer of this film’s songs, would later bring in a lot of Punjabi folk tunes and rhythms into his music to brilliant effect, but this song is also a great example of how he incorporated swing into some of his early tunes too. This song was part of my regular Geeta Dutt repertoire in the college band days. Those were good times, we always had a blast performing it!
(The words go – “My name is Chin Chin Choo, The night, the stars, me and you, hello mister, how do you do?”)

The new digs look great! Dutt really can wiggle, you weren’t kidding! Thanks for sharing that fun video.
chin chin choo is awesome!
Hey, looks good. I just had to decide whether to reup at typepad, too. And I did, after waffling over whether I even wanted to do so. But this looks cool!
I consider whether or not to move to my own domain, but for now the free aspect of staying with Blogger wins out. I added ‘Howrah Bridge’ to my Netflix queue, as well as a few other similar movies they recommended.
It’s great that you moved. I think you’ll be much happier with Word Press. I wish I could offer you some sage advice, but I have a friend do all the complicated things on my site.
Welcome to your new blog home!
like the new digs!!!!
Wow, Helen _is_ gorgeous! Netflix, here I come…
Happy blogwarming! I’m not sure if I’ve commented before, but I linked to you from Pam awhile back and have been enjoying reading ever since.
Thanks for the video, too — that Helen certainly is a beauty.
*looking around* Very nice, very nice. Ikea?
I was so happy to see the red banner is here now too! It always brightens up my day — though that grey-green wasn’t bad.
Happy moving-in
And a million thanks for that great dance clip…” Mira nam…” Catchy tune that is going to be hard to get out of my head.
btw: I was at an India Initiative reception at the University where I teach this evening and I was talking about your great blog. I can’t remember how we got on the subject, but it had something to do with the dance videos you put up. Fun stuff.
Hope your move goes smooth!
Spiffy new blog! You’ve already done a lot more than I could do if I tried to make my own site!
That would’ve been really fun. Oh well.
I got your comment on my blog and I am totally bummed I didn’t think of organizing a meet up
Happy New Home!!
And another excellent clip — thanks.
(I found you through a search on the feather and fan shawl) — That video is most excellent! — tho I must ask… is good or interesting yarn available in India? is there a name for the type of store I should be looking for? — The last time I looked it was a whole lot of acrylics. Lots of stuff made with yarn, but no raw materials.
Any ideas? and Thanks!!
